NEW BULGARIAN VOICES DISCOVERED BY KABAIVANSKA FASCINATED PLOVDIV

Alexandrina Mihaylova, Mila Mihova and Yosif Slavov caused a furor in the House of Culture "Boris Hristov" during the Gala concert of the XXI International Master Class of Raina Kabaivanska organized by New Bulgarian University. The concert was at the invitation of Assoc. Prof. Nina Naydenova - Director of the State Opera Plovdiv. The Concert opened the season of the Cultural Institute. The conductor was Maestro Nayden Todorov.
The promising young baritone Yosif Slavov (22 years old) performed an aria of Rodrigo from “Don Carlo” by Verdi. Yosif is for the second consecutive year among the participants in the Master Class of Maestra Kabaivanska at NBU. He also spent a year with her at Vecchi-Tonelli Music Institute in Modena. The popular soprano Mila Mihova also participates for the second time in the Master Class at NBU. She performed the aria of Manon from “Manon” by Massenet with an exceptional stage presence and vocal virtuosity. Alexandrina Mihaylova appeared with incredible technique and charming artistry in aria of Marguerite from “Faust” by Gounod. In August the young soprano Alexandrina (23 years old) was among the selected winners (after three rounds with 430 applicants) in the competition for young opera singers at Teatro alla Scala, Milano. In the next 2 years she will study at the Academy of the first Italian Opera Theater. Alexandrina has been studying with Raina Kabaivanska for already 5 years and she is a great hope of the youngest Bulgarian opera generation. These three young talents are scholarship holders of Raina Kabaivanska Fund at NBU. Partners of the Fund are Fantastico Trade Chain and Sofia Municipality.

The other participants in the concert were also given warm welcome by the cordial audience of Plovdiv: Aida Pascu (Romania), Andrea Barbato, Arianna Cimolin, Vincenzo Spinelli, Chiara Mogini (Italy), Kwangsik Park Park and Hae Kang (South Korea). The concert ended with an encore of “Libiamo, ne’ lieti calici” from "La Traviata" with the participation of Raina Kabaivanska. Some minutes earlier, being on the stage, Kabaivanska said to the enthusiastic audience in the hall: "If these young talents have touched even one only delicate string in your souls tonight, I am happy. Thank you for giving my children the opportunity to sing in front of you. Thank you, my dear audience! “

The final Gala concert of the garduates of the XXI International Master Class of Raina Kabaivanska, dedicated also to the 30th anniversary of the establishment of New Bulgarian University, will be held on 1st of October at National Opera and Ballet House in Sofia. At the end of it will be announced the new scholarship holders of Raina Kabaivanska Fund at NBU. They will have the opportunity to continue their training in Italy. The Master Class is part of the Calendar of cultural events of Sofia Municipality for 2021.
