Bulgarian premiere of “La Donna Del Lago” by Rossini - 202 years after its creation



The production of Sofia Opera and Ballet will present 9 performances on the Lake “Pancharevo” stage. Maria Radoeva, one of the most prominent participants in the master classes of Raina Kabaivanska at New Bulgarian University, is invited for the leading role of the beautiful Elena, entangled in complex love and political relationships with three men, including the King of Scotland.

The young singer is living in Italy for years. She is performing at the opera theatres in Modena, Turin, Verona, Lucca, Pisa etc. Soloist of the theater in Earl, Austria, where she triumphed in two other works by Rossini – “Semiramide” and “Hermione”, conducted by Gustav Kuhn. In recent years she has made remarkable returns to Bulgaria with the cult production of “Orpheus and Eurydice” by Gluck at the Ancient Theater in Plovdiv and the song cycle “Wesendonck Lieder” by Wagner on the stage of Sofia Philharmonic. She made her debut at Sofia Opera and Ballet House in 2010 as Musetta in “La Boheme” by Puccini - a performance included in the project under the auspices of NBU "Raina Kabaivanska presents her students on the world opera stage". Radoeva performed brilliantly the famous aria "Tanti affetti" from“La Donna Del Lago” in 2014 at the Gala concert in honor of the 80th anniversary of Raina Kabaivanska at Hall 1 of the National Palace of Culture. Now her dream to play this role on the stage - in an opera performance, is coming true.

Two more graduates of master classes of Kabaivanska at NBU are part of the elite cast - the tenor from Venezuela Reynaldo Droz and Bulgarian mezzo-soprano Vessela Yaneva.

In September Raina Kabaivanska will arrive in Sofia again for the 21st edition of her International Master Class, organized by NBU. The audition of the candidates is on September 6 at Sofia Opera and Ballet House. On a competitive basis for participation in the master class will be selected up to 13 young opera singers. The final Gala concert, which will celebrate the 30th anniversary of the establishment of New Bulgarian University, will be on the stage of the National Opera on October 1st. Then will be announced the new scholarship holders of Raina Kabaivanska Donation Fund at NBU, who will be given the opportunity to continue their training in Italy. Partners of the Fund are the retail chain “Fantastico” and Sofia Municipality. The master class is part of the Calendar of cultural events of Sofia Municipality for 2021.
